A Look Back on Week One

Day 1
Arrived in Leon, Gto.  We were met at the airport by our driver Ramiro.  Our departamento, was 30 minutes from the airport.  We then proceeded to carry all of our luggage 110 steps up a large callejon, in the rain.  Needless to say we arrived exhausted. Bobbie Rose, Felisha, and I fell asleep for about 5 hours or so.  When we awoke it felt like the next day.  In reality it was only noon.  The brave adventurers that we are (especially when being led by our stomaches), we decided to head into town. Not knowing where anything was relative to our departamento we head through the Tunel Noreste.  We took a mile or so walk up hill toward La Prepa.  There we found tons of teenagers, and our favorite Torta place.  The beans taste just like my abuelitas, Bobbie Rose can't get enough of this place.  The walk toward home was downhill, until we get to our callejon.  We then struggled up the callejon's 110 steps up ( I can't stress up enough) to our dept.  Day one, very exhausting.

Day 2
I should be embarrassed to admit this but Felisha managed to wake up before me and Bobbie Rose.  We are all finally up and ready to leave the house at about 3:00 p.m.  We head out in a different direction.  Turns out to be a great choice, we walk through Mexiamora and Perros Muertos.  Our food today wasn't as great as our first tortas, but the change of scenery is great.  We walk around buy some groceries.  We find an excellent Panaderia, buy some sweet bread and head home.  We head up panting, and breaking.  Our neighbors are probably laughing at us.  Day two still quite exhausting.

Day 3
Good news we are up slightly earlier and today we are ready to leave the house by 2:00 p.m.  We head out to our favorite torta place.  Only today she is out of bolios. Bobbie Rose tries a bean burrito, I have a quesadilla, Felisha tries a hamburger not the best choice.  Both girls plan on staying home all day.  Good news:  The aching in my calves is starting to go away.

Day 4
Today has been our most adventurous day yet.  We wake just a bit earlier today.  We are out of the house by 1:00 p.m. We walk farther today, find some great eats, shops, etc.  We take a cab up to Bobbie Rose's school.  Neither Bobbie Rose or I have admitted it yet, but it felt so good to be at a Waldorf School.  The familiarity, the look of a Waldorf classroom is universal.  It was a nice visit.  Unfortunately, Bobbie Rose's teacher is out, due to a back injury.  The teacher is not expected to return for 2 weeks.  We'll figure things out on Monday.  Me, I am excited about my classes.  We return home, still some huffing and puffing.  I should mention that I purchased 2 cell phones with a Gto. number.  My total a whopping $75 dollars for both phones ready for use.

Day 5
The girls choose to stay home all day.  Yes, all day.  We order pizza, rent Little Women on itunes, which took about 6 hours to download. Then we call it a day.

Day 6
Sunday in Gto. is lively.  Unbeknownst to us the lavanderias for the most part close on Sunday.  We are walking around town carrying a weeks worth of dirty laundry.  We are absolutely desperate to find a lavanderia open on Sundays.  After about an hour we find one, the lady there was very kind.  Relieved of our heavy weight we are on the search for (don't laugh) a hearty american breakfast.  We go to a nice restaurant in La Jardin Union.  The food was delicious.  Bobbie Rose ordered the hotcakes she has been craving.  I ordered french toast and the most amazing chilaquiles.  Felisha was quite taken with her food as well, she had an order of pancakes and enchiladas.  The meal cost $31 dollars our most expensive meal yet.  We then did our weeks shopping down at the Mercado Hidalgo.  Headed home.  Huffed and Puffed a lot less today.

We've been in Guanajuato a week.  It really is beautiful here, it's quite different. I'd have to say, "There's no place like home."
